Chapter Six

2500 B. C.

Methuselah hurried toward the place his father had shown him centuries before. It was time to hide the books. The giant offspring of human women and fallen angels were everywhere and always hungry for human flesh to eat. There was no way for him to hide from view. With menacing gestures two of them headed in his direction with knife blades ready and glinting in the hot sun. At 200 feet tall it did not take them long to breach the distance to Methuselah.

Dressed as Egyptian gods with the headdresses representing the Ibis of the god Thoth and the jackal head of Anubis, they could easily see the gold trim on the box containing the 366 books of Enoch. Suspecting he carried a box of gold or gems they determined to kill him to get it and have him for desert.

There were no laws to protect him. People did whatever came in mind to do. Many of the more timid souls barred themselves in houses surrounded by high walls with shards of glass embedded in the tops of the walls and roofs.

The giants did not need knives to kill. They had other powers, but enjoyed the hands on experience of killing their victims as predators killed and ate their prey. They had also been seen drinking blood as well as eating the flesh.

They were upon him. One slashed a glancing blow to his shoulder. Shrieking with pain he clung to the box they were trying to wrench from him. He jerked away from them for just a few seconds. He stomped his foot. He saw the shimmer and disappeared before their very eyes.

Shouting with anger they savagely attacked one another, each blaming the other for letting their victim and the treasure get away.

Free of his would-be captors, Methuselah ran down the colorful and glowing hall to the room his father had shown him.

Carefully placing the books within the hollow of the blue pedestal he then closed. Not even a line could be seen to denote there was a compartment.

He traveled the long corridors to the room of the ancient First Ones. Enoch had also ordered him to copy the contents of the black box. He had even given him another black box to put what he copied into it to fit in the same way as the original. He had special writing materials to do the job. It would take him some time. He had provisions in his robe to last a few days if need be. He was then to give the box to a certain man who would carry it to the other side of Pangeia and bury it. Enoch said the man would know who Methuselah was and say certain words to let Methuselah know he was the one to entrust the black box to.

A week later, Methuselah finished the job. he looked around to better remember the room. He tried to imagine how the man who had written the originals felt as he watched his world disintegrate. He glanced at the perfectly preserved remains of the ancient Atlantean. Even now, so many millennia later, the expression of sadness was unmistakable.

"God has a plan, my friend. We may not understand it all, but the end result will be wonderful, I know. Perhaps you know, now." The son of Enoch sighed. Satisfied that his work was complete he sat down next to the body to rest a few moments before moving on.

He closed his eyes and thought about the wondrous things revealed in the books of his father and wondered who would be the one to discover the books once again.
